Tip of the week

February 12th, 2013

Tennis is a game of fitness, you have to be able to command and conquer on the court. If you are interested in betting on sports here’s a cool website  USA sports betting site . Anyways  you have to be in good shape. One way of making sure you stay in good shape is to use a heart rate monitor. This helps to monitor your running excercise and improve upon it . This is one example of a good heart rate monitor

Nike Triax C6

Designed for the cardio exerciser, the C6 features a calorie counter and an automated personal zone finder that helps you to determine your target heart-rate zones. The view button allows you to easily display your heart rate, current zone, calories burned and exercise time. The watch is durable and the band is comfortable so it.

Crossfit

Crossfit good or bad for Tennis?

This is a question that I get asked a lot. Whether it’s good to do crossfit to get in shape for tennis or better off just to do cardio?

Lifting weights in my opinion does help give you more power and more strength for your tennis game. However, it has to be done right. We are in the gym not to become huge and super muscular; we are there to build muscles that help us for example serve better; move better in a lateral movement, hit a more powerful backhand through generating more power from the hips and core.

The key is to mix a lot of reps with heavy weight every once in a while to gain both endurance to the muscle and build more mass. This way you will get more in shape and become lean and mean. Remember you shouldn’t lift heavy all the time; it might give you a nice bod however for tennis you need to be light and quick. So the lean and mean process is the best approach.

Some of the useful exercises for legs are leg press, leg curls, barbel squats and hack squats.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Stay Fit During The Holidays

December 19th, 2012

It’s a question that every tennis player or any kind of athlete wonder about! How do you say no to the awesome grandma cookies or your mom’s delicious tray of various deserts?

The answer to all that is moderation, as long as you keep in mind that you can have a little bit of everything but within small amounts your good. You can follow that approach or you can use working out longer hours to make the difference. Also drink extra water to help you stay full and avoid pigging out.

After all life is too short and you got to enjoy every part of the year!

Happy Holidays to all!

Get in better shape !

April 7th, 2011

I get asked a lot of questions on how to get into better Tennis shape?

Well, in tennis there is a lot of sprinting and stopping so the training has to be tailored towards that mindset. Running long distances alone won’t put you in good shape for tennis. The key is doing a lot of intervals, whether you choose to run outside or on the treadmill. This helps your body get used to all the body blows that you might get on the tennis court; that ranges from 5 sprints in a row to 4 gradual sprints.

If you happen to have a treadmill at home or at your gym and good way to start doing intervals is to follow this process. 6% incline with 6.5 speed for 30 seconds then 6% incline and 3.5 speed for 30 seconds. Do that for 20 min and you will get yourself in good shape. The key is to do it consistently.

Good Luck!
