How do you stay in tennis shape?

Doing high interval exercise can help improve your tennis game. High interval training can rapidly raise your heart rate then drop it back down in a fraction of seconds. When you are on the court, sprint for a drop shot, and then sprint back to the base line it causes your heart rate to jump from low to high in less than a second. The best way to prepare yourself for this shot is to do high–low intervals by training on an elliptical, running, or using a stair-stepper. Some people make the mistake of concentrating on cardio for hours at the same level.  This does not improve your tennis shape.  It might help you if you were going to run a marathon but not in a tennis game.
